Things I learned:
  • SKA (36A: The Uptones genre) The Uptones is a SKA band formed in 1981 by nine high school students in California. After seven years of playing live shows, the band went their separate ways in the late 1980s. The Uptones reformed in 2002, with four of the original members, and some new members.
  • TOMATO (8D: Qalayet bandora ingredient) The translation of Qalayet bandora is "pan of TOMATOes," which perfectly describes this dish. The dish originated from Jordan, Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon. Qalayet bandora consists of onions, hot peppers, and TOMATOes, sautéed in olive oil, and seasoned with salt.
Random thoughts and interesting things:

Making their debut at the 1958 World's Fair (Expo 58) held in Brussels, Belgium, BELGIAN WAFFLES made their way to a World's Fair in Seattle Washington in 1962, where they were served with strawberries and whipped cream.

  • ENGLISH MUFFINS (57A: Essential ingredients in eggs Benedict) Eggs Benedict consists of ENGLISH MUFFINS topped with Canadian Bacon, a poached egg, and hollandaise sauce. ENGLISH MUFFINS, originating from England, of course, are yeast-leavened breads that are small, round, and flat. The name of ENGLISH MUFFIN distinguishes them from the cupcake-shaped breads referred to as MUFFINS.

  • MAIN (60D: ___ character energy) MAIN character energy refers to acting as if you are the star of your own show. In other words, MAIN character energy is putting yourself first, not in a selfish way (e.g. making everything about you), but in a way that affirms self care.
